Bio:
Prof. dr. Rik Vosters teaches and carries out research in Dutch linguistics, language history, corpus linguistics and (historical) sociolinguistics at the department of Linguistics and Literary Studies. In 2011, he defended his dissertation in historical sociolinguistics, focusing on language variation, language norms and linguistic identities in 18th and 19th century Southern Dutch, which was awared the 2012 Prize for Linguistics of the Royal Academy of Dutch Language and Literature.
He previously held the the Breughel Chair of Flemish Studies as a visiting professor at the University of Pennsylvania, and taught at the Université de Liège and Erasmus University College Brussels. Currently, he is also the head of the research and PhD committee of the faculty of Arts and Philosophy, the deputy program director of our multilingual MA program in Linguistics and Literary Studies, and he is a member of the university’s research council. Additionally, he is an enthusiastic member of the Historical Sociolinguistics Network (HiSoN), for which the coordinates the FWO-funded research network (WOG) on historical sociolinguistics.
