Justine den Ouden
Biography
Justine den Ouden obtained her bachelor's degree in Language and Literature from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel in 2025 with great distinction. Her two bachelor's theses focused on the use of literary texts in the classroom for teaching French as a foreign language and the use of discourse markers of deontic modality by Spanish language learners. During her final bachelor's year, she studied at the Universidad de Sevilla for five months. She is currently pursuing an English Master's degree in Linguistics & Literature: Psycholinguistics and Neurolinguistics. Justine specialises in French and Spanish linguistics and she is writing her Master's thesis on metaphors in the Spanish language under the supervision of Prof. Dr. An Vande Casteele and PhD researcher Anastasija Jagafarova. To enhance her research skills, she is currently enrolled in the Talent for Research programme with research coach Prof. Dr. An Vande Casteele. Her main research interests lie in the fields of psycholinguistics and neurolinguistics, which she likes to combine with her passion for Spanish. By July 2026, she plans to complete her master year. Her future plans include taking on a one-year Master's degree in Education and expanding her language knowledge of Spanish. In her spare time she also enjoys immersing herself in English literature.
