Ilke Van Gils

Ilke Van Gils obtained her bachelor’s degree in Applied Linguistics with a specialization in French and Spanish at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) and is currently pursuing a master in Interpreting at the same university. During the last year of her bachelor’s, she studied a semester at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) in Mexico. She wrote her bachelor’s thesis about the role of gender in language education and therefore analysed self-reported feedback from parents to their three- to five-year-old children. This year she is writing her master’s thesis on Flemish children’s perception of Dutch spoken in the Netherlands under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Laura Rosseel and postdoctoral researcher Melissa Schuring. Both will also guide her through the Talent for Research Programme in which she will deepen her knowledge of sociolinguistics.
