Allison Laufenberg

Allison Laufenberg holds a BA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in French and Francophone Studies, with a minor in Mathematics. During her final year of her undergraduate degree, she spent a semester abroad in Montpellier, France, and after graduating in 2024, she returned to France, where she worked for two years as a collège-level English language assistant in and around Lille. She is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in English and French Linguistics, which she hopes to receive in 2028 after completing a preparatory program. As part of the Talent for Research program, she is working in Prof. Dr. Esli Struys and Prof. Dr. Mathieu Declerck’s research group, which conducts various research projects dealing with bilingual language control. Informed by her own experience learning French as a second language and by her experience teaching English, her personal linguistic interests include language evolution, interaction, and acquisition, particularly as they relate to speakers of multiple languages. Allison hopes to continue her studies at the doctorate level after completing her MA, and looks forward to gaining practical research experience through the Talent for Research program with this in mind.
